Attempted Kidnapping Prompts Texas District to Boost Security

Published: August 25, 2013

KEMP, Texas — Kemp Independent School District (KISD) is beefing up school security following an attempted kidnapping at Kemp Junior High.

On August 19, two young girls were cleaning paintbrushes in the girl’s restroom of an auxiliary gym when a man attempted to drag one of the girls off the premises, CBS DFW reports. The suspect ran off when the other girl screamed.

Although neither girl was hurt, it took an hour and a half before the incident was properly reported to authorities. The episode has prompted KISD to review its security procedures, such as having more supervision on school premises. At the time of the incident, a camera that would normally have been recording the area where the attempted kidnapping occurred was being rewired. District officials say the security camera systems have been updated.

KISD has posted an update Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) on its Web site.
