Healthcare System Unifies Identity Management Systems

NEW YORK — Health Quest, a healthcare group of hospitals and other facilities, is in the midst of a multi-year project to create a unified identity management system.

Health Quest worked with technology provider Identropy to integrate its HID-based physical-access control identity badge system into the logical-access controls so that the badges can also be used for computer authentication, Network World reports. With help from a USB interface, the badges used by medical staff can now authenticate to the hospital’s computers, which are often set up like kiosks.

Soon, Health Quest will refine the access to its back-office business and billing systems for employees.
