MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Reports of multiple shots being fired at Alabama State University’s (ASU) homecoming festivities has prompted the school to revise its tailgating policy.
The October 5 shooting happened in the tailgating area of campus and prompted immediate response by law enforcement, reports AL.com. Immediately after the shooting, ASU’s Department of Public Safety also advised all students, faculty, and staff to shelter in a safe place for the remainder of the evening. Two suspects were quickly arrested.

In response to the shooting, ASU’s tailgate area will be enclosed with one entry and exit gate, reports WSFA. Attendees must present a game ticket, tailgating ticket, or student ID to enter.
Additionally, tailgating setup opens for season holder attendees in recreational vehicles at 3 p.m. on Friday. For attendees not in RVs, it opens at 5 p.m. The tailgate area closes at noon on Sundays for those in RVs. Noise levels will be monitored in the RV parking areas.
Attendees in tents can load in on game day from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. Tents must leave the area by 10 p.m.
Some of the fans who attended ASU’s game on Saturday applauded the increases in security, reports WTVY.
