Four people were shot, including one person by a sheriff’s deputy, and one person was arrested after altercations outside of a Michigan High school Feb. 9.
The shootings were the result of an altercation outside of Muskegon Heights High/Middle School following a basketball game, according to mlive.com.
The disputes occurred in the school’s parking lot and resulted in two males and two females suffering gunshot wounds. The identities of the victims have not been released.
The Muskegon County Sheriff’s Office said a deputy was confronted by a male outside of the school around 9:30 p.m. After the male showed a pistol, the sheriff felt his life was in “imminent danger” and shot the suspect. The Michigan State Police have opened an investigation into that shooting, although police said the investigation has so far shown that the deputy “acted in a thoroughly professional and heroic manner.”
One person, 21-year-old Clarence Jamichael McCaleb, was arrested following the incident. McCaleb faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon, felony firearm possession and carrying a concealed weapon. Police have not said if McCaleb was the person shot by the sheriff.
Police heard about the possibility of a fight that night after an earlier dispute in Grand Rapids. As a result, additional officers were staffed at the school and multiple people were denied entry to the basketball game.
