A student at New Mexico State University was shot by police on campus after a late-night confrontation Monday.
The 28-year-old student, who has been identified as Karsten Cuthair, was taken to a local hospital and is expected to recover, reports kob.com.
NMSU Spokesperson Justin Bannister says a campus police officer confronted the student after receiving a call about a man with a gun around a campus apartment complex.
Campus Police Chief Stephen Lopez says footage from an officer’s body camera shows the student threatening other people as officers arrived on the scene. The body camera footage can be seen above.

Chief Lopez says the student refused to follow the officer’s commands and one officer opened fire, striking the student in the leg.
“I am very pleased that despite being confronted with an armed threat the officer maintained his composure,” Lopez said at a press conference.
No one else was hurt in the incident and an active investigation is underway.
