A Louisiana woman was rescued after sending her 11-year-old daughter to school with a note asking authorities for help Tuesday.
The girl gave the note to teachers at East Feliciana Middle School. School administrators immediately contacted East Feliciana police, who obtained a warrant and rescued the woman, according to CNN.
Although the specific message on the note has not been released, police say the woman had been held against her will in a trailer for at least a couple of weeks and couldn’t talk on the phone.
“It’s very alarming when a student shows up with a note asking for help,” East Feliciano Parish Sheriff Jeff Travis says.
After receiving the note, sheriffs went to the trailer of Donald Ray Guy with a K-9 unit and chase team. No one answered the door, so they obtained a warrant and found the girl’s mother inside the trailer with two of Guy’s relatives. Guy was discovered hiding in a closet and was arrested without incident.
Guy now faces charges of false imprisonment and domestic abuse battery. He has outstanding warrants for failure to appear at trial, aggravated battery and domestic abuse battery in the presence of a child along with outstanding warrants in East Baton Rouge.
Additional charges are likely after sheriffs found stolen ATV equipment on Guy’s property.
The woman and her daughter were reunited after the arrest.
