BERKELEY, Calif. — A lawsuit against UC Berkeley filed by two Jewish students who accused the school of fostering an environment of anti-Semitism has been dismissed by a federal judge.
The plaintiffs claimed they and other Jewish students have been harassed during an annual event held by Muslim student groups, the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Demonstrators in military attire brandished fake weapons and asked passing students whether they were Jewish, according to the suit.
U.S. District Judge Richard Seeborg said Dec. 22 that most of the conduct described in the lawsuit is protected by the constitution and that UC Berkeley has no legal duty to outlaw harassing speech and conduct on its campus.
