TEXAS — A study of 948 Texas teens found that more than 1 in 4 adolescents have sent a nude photo of themselves through electronic means. The study also found that “sexting” may be associated with sexual behavior.
The study, published in the Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine, found that sexting and being asked to send nude photos was more prevalent among White/non-Hispanic and African American teens than other groups, Medical News Today reports. Also, teens that “sext” were more likely to have started dating and having sex.
The researchers suggest that parents and schools do not have enough information on the nature and importance of sexting, as there is insufficient empirical data.
