The lawsuit against Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) and its former law school dean has settled.
Former CWRU Law School Dean Lawrence Mitchell and the school were being sued by former Associate Dean Raymond Ku, alleging that Mitchell and CWRU retaliated against Ku for reporting that Mitchell had possibly sexually harassed female students and staff.
Ku claimed he personally saw Mitchell caressing a female staff member at a party and learned of allegations by other women that Mitchell had made inappropriate comments. After Ku reported these issues to school authorities, Mitchell allegedly threated to fire him. Ku was stripped of many of his responsibilities and had his salary reduced.
The lawsuit also claims CWRU officials knew of prior concerns about Mitchell at George Washington University.
The settlement comes after CWRU and Mitchell appealed a judge’s ruling on electronic discovery protocol – which would have likely yielded more corroborating and embarrassing information- and before the case could go to trial, reports Cleveland Scene.
Details of the agreement have not been made public, but Ku has been appointed director of CWRU’s Center for Cyberspace Law & Policy.
