Some women are demanding an investigation as a St. Louis hospital that closed more than 35 years ago is being accused of taking newborn babies from mothers.
More than 12 women are wondering if a hospital that’s been closed since 1979 stole their babies after they gave birth decades ago, according to cbsnews.com.
The questions arose after a blood test confirmed two women who connected on Facebook were mother and daughter. The mother says she was told by nurses in 1966 that her baby died shortly after birth at Homer G. Phillips Hospital.
The reunited women wrote about their experience in March, and now other women, all of whom gave birth at the hospital over 36 years ago, want an investigation to take place. The women say they gave birth at very young ages and were targeted.
St. Louis Mayor Francis G. Slay says the city is working with the alleged victims.
