DAVIS, Calif. — A former University of California, Davis, anti-violence coordinator pleaded no contest to two felony counts of embezzlement and keeping false accounts in Yolo Superior Court on April 14. Jennifer Beeman faces a possible sentence of probation.
Beeman, the former director of the university’s campus violence prevention program, was arrested on December 10, 2010, and charged with nine felonies related to the embezzlement or misuse of public funds, the Sacramento Bee reports. After she retired in 2009, university officials accused Beeman of inflating the number of campus rapes in reports to the federal government.
The criminal charges against Beeman relate to her handling of program funds. Prosecutors said she had taken about $10,500. As part of her plea deal, Beeman must pay restitution in that amount.
