FRESNO, Calif. — Authorities have charged three Fresno State students with misdemeanor hazing in connection with the alcohol-related death of a Fresno State University freshman, who died last year at a Theta Chi fraternity party.
Theta Chi pledge Philip Dhanens, 18, died in August 2012 — two weeks into his first semester at the university — after drinking a deadly amount of alcohol during the now-closed fraternity’s initiation.
On Tuesday, prosecutors charged Leonard Serrato, 28, Aaron Raymo, 24, and Daniel Baker, 22, with one count each of hazing and providing alcohol to a person under the age of 21. If convicted, they face a possible sentence of six months to a year in jail, as well as a $5,000 fine, Reuters reports.
