Iowa State University officials are discussing the possibility of sanctions on students who don’t complete the school’s Title IX training by March 28.
The online training is intended to educate students and university employees on sexual harassment, discrimination and violence prevention, reports the Iowa State Daily. The training opened Jan. 28 with an original deadline of Feb. 28, but it was re-opened when university officials realized some of the training notification emails went into spam.
The program completion rate has significantly improved since then, but school officials are considering other ways besides email to inform their community about the required courses. The training has three 40-minute modules total: two for students and one for employees.
Sexual assault prevention experts recommend this type of training to improve a college’s culture and hopefully reduce the number of sexual misconduct cases in a campus community.
