MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Eighty-six students at Frayser High School are pregnant or have given birth in the past year, according to recent statistics. The spike in teen pregnancies has led to a new campaign called “No Baby!” which provides sex education to students.
The program also focuses on teaching teen girls how to say no to sex, Fox News reports. Many pregnant teenagers do not get proper prenatal care and can have high risk pregnancies resulting in premature delivery or pregnancy-induced hypertension.
The rate of teenage pregnancy in Memphis is between 15 and 20 percent – nearly twice the national average. In the zip code where Frayser High School is located, the rate is 26 percent.
