Although active shooter attacks and sexual assaults have been receiving the most attention lately in the campus security community, usually the most commonly reported crimes on a college campus are theft and burglary. That’s why this month CS is honoring two Campus Safety Heroes from Minneapolis Community and Technical College (MCTC) who have gone above and beyond to address these and other crimes that might not receive as much publicity.
“Public Safety Officer Rick Hyde’s recent work on a theft case involving over 14 victims who were students on campus led to an identification and arrest of a suspect,” says Mark DeRee, MCTC’s public safety supervisor. “Hyde put in numerous hours of work with the investigating law enforcement agency, the victims and the prosecutor’s office on this case.”
DeRee also sings the praises of MCTC Public Safety Officer Dave Erntson who has been personally responsible for identifying a number of suspects involved in everything from thefts, burglaries and aggravated assaults.
Additionally, DeRee credits both Hyde and Erntson for making students feel welcome and making the extra effort when an incident occurs.
That’s why CS is naming MCTC Public Safety Officers Rick Hyde and Dave Erntson December’s Campus Safety Heroes. Congratulations gentlemen!
