Patient Takes Officer Gun, Shoots Several Rounds in Colorado Hospital

Although several shots were fired by the forensic patient during the incident, no one was hit by gunfire.

A man in police custody took an officer’s gun and fired several shots inside UCHealth Memorial Hospital Central in Colorado Springs, Colo., before fleeing in a stolen vehicle on Nov. 25.

The forensic patient has been identified as Randy Bishop. Just before the shooting, he had been arrested without incident on multiple outstanding warrants after he was involved in a traffic accident, reports the Gazette.

According to local authorities, officers took Bishop to the hospital for a medical check when he ran away from police inside the building, reports KDVR. He was able to grab an officer’s gun after being tackled by the detective and then fired several rounds before fleeing in a silver BMW SUV that he carjacked.

Although no one was hit by the gunfire, the detective received minor injuries during the foot chase.

The ordeal began during a medical procedure.

The hospital was briefly locked down. Additionally, local police surrounded the building.

Bishop has not yet been apprehended, reports CPR.
