A man who was being held for robbery, burglary and resisting arrest remains missing after he escaped from a New Jersey hospital March 30.
Elijah Shabazz was being treated for chest pains at University Hospital when he walked out without anyone noticing in spite of the fact that two city police officers were assigned to guard him, according to nj.com. Doctors found his room empty at roughly 11 a.m. Monday, prompting a lockdown that lasted two hours.
Authorities are not saying if Shabazz came into contact with any hospital employees or citizens but they said the department has received several tips since his disappearance. Shabazz has been arrested for cocaine distribution, assault and threatening.
A spokeswoman for the hospital said it would examine its procedures for treating prisoners because of the incident.
