NORMAL, Ill. — A shooting disrupted a “registered student organization event” at Illinois State University’s (ISU) Bone Student Center on Sunday night, leaving one individual injured. According to authorities, the incident occurred at approximately 7:40 p.m.
The victim, who police confirmed is not an ISU student, sustained injuries that were not life-threatening, reports WREX. They were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The shooting reportedly happened during a fight between two groups at the entryway outside one of the events inside the Bone Student Center, reports CIProud. Two events were taking place at the venue on Sunday evening, including a sorority gathering.
Bone Student Center Shooting Prompts ISU to Issue Emergency Notification
ISU promptly issued an emergency notification to its community following the initial report of shots fired. Authorities advised the public to “stay away from Bone and near University/Locust Streets,” reports NBC Chicago.
As of Monday morning, police were still searching for the suspect. The Illinois State University Police Department (ISUPD) released photos of the suspected shooter on Facebook.
A shelter-in-place alert was not issued by ISU as law enforcement quickly responded to the scene with a strong presence.
On Monday, ISU held classes as scheduled. Campus officials have not reported any further incidents.
Local law enforcement continues to investigate the shooting and has asked anyone with information to come forward. Students and community members are urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity to ISUPD.
ISU Incident Happened the Same Day as Shooting at Elizabeth City State
The shooting on ISU’s campus happened only hours after gunfire erupted at Elizabeth City State University (ECSU), killing one person and injuring six others. A 24-year-old man, who was not an ECSU student, was killed.
