Children who do not have attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) should not be given Ritalin, Adderall and other ADHD medications so they can improve their study habits.
A report published in the journal Neurology claims doctors should not give into pressure to prescribe these drugs as study aids for children and teens who don’t have ADHD, reports USA Today. Some data indicate the abuse of this medication is on the rise. Parents who want their kids to have an edge in their academic studies often push for a prescription, while teens sometimes fake ADHD symptoms so they can obtain the drugs for their own use or to give to others.
ADHD affects 3% to 7% of children.
