SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Springfield Hospital alerted the Taney County Sheriff’s office that a burglary suspect had escaped from the hospital, but the message was not received due to technical problems.
Hospital officials said the call to the police was placed within minutes of Danny Paul Waggoner’s escape on June 30, the News-Leader reports. However, Sheriff Jimmie Russell was surprised when he called on July 5 and hospital staff told him Waggoner was already gone.
Waggoner was air lifted to the hospital for treatment on June 22 after receiving a gunshot wound during a burglary. Russell has now asked the public for help in locating Waggoner.
