SANTA MONICA, Calif. – Police arrested a suicidal 19-year-old college student they believe made threats to several schools in the area.
On Thursday, the unidentified male was apprehended on the campus of Santa Monica College (SMC), reports the Los Angeles Times. The campus and neighboring K-12 schools were on lockdown after receiving a call that a 19-year-old man would be there with a gun and might attempt suicide.
Additionally, police received reports that a gunman threatened to shoot up a large but unspecified school, which prompted authorities to evacuate East L.A. College and several other schools in and around Monterey Park.
After the suspect, who did not have a weapon and was an SMC student, was detained, the lockdowns were lifted. Still, it is not clear if the Santa Monica and East L.A. College threats were related.
