COLLAGE PARK, Md.—Two University of Maryland students are dead and a third is in serious condition after Tuesday’s early morning shooting. Police are now saying the incident was a murder-suicide.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the suspect, who lives at the off-campus location where the shootings occurred, started a fire in the basement. Two roommates went downstairs to see what was happening. All three individuals left the home and went outside to the front of the home where the suspect began shooting. One victim was pronounced dead at a local hospital and the second victim sustained non-life threatening injuries. A weapon was recovered at the scene. Police are no longer looking for any other suspects. The Prince George’s County Police Department. is still in the process of trying to notify the students’ families.
