The summer of 2015 has been an active hiring season as school districts and colleges around the nation have been busy announcing the appointments of new police chiefs, security directors and Title IX coordinators.
Ole Miss in Oxford, Miss., has hired Tim Potts as its new campus police chief. Previously, he was a captain at Purdue.
Meanwhile, University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Police Chief Joseph LeMire has moved over to UW-Milwaukee to become its new police chief.

On the West Coast, California State University Chico announced that it has appointed John Feeney as its new chief of police. He previously served as captain with the San Francisco Police Department. He replaces former chief Robyn Hearne, who retired.
On the East Coast, the UNC School of the Arts has hired Gregory C. Harris as its new police chief. Harris was previously chief of police at S.C. State University in Orangeburg, S.C. He succeeds Deb Cheesebro, who is now police chief at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Va.
K-12 school districts have also been busy hiring. Chester, Tenn., Police Chief Andre Williams has resigned his position to take a newly created position as chief of security for Chester County Schools.
Meanwhile, the Pittsburgh Board of Education approved George Brown, Jr. as the Chief of School Safety. Previously he served on the Pittsburgh Office of School Safety for 20 years.
In Connecticut, former Milford Police Sergeant Jeff Nielson will become the city’s first school safety and security coordinator.
Considering all the attention that Title IX compliance has been receiving lately, it comes as no surprise that many U.S. institutions of higher education are hiring new Title IX coordinators. The University of Hawaii at Manoa has appointed Dee Uwono as its dedicated Title IX coordinator. Previously, she established the school’s judicial affairs office where she served as lead investigator for all Title IX and other discrimination cases filed by students.
Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Mich., has hired Kevin Carmody as its Title IX coordinator and associate dean of student life. Previously he was the associate director of student life/assistant Title IX coordinator at Youngstown State University in Ohio.
Emily J. Miller will serve as Harvard’s first full-time Title IX coordinator. She was previously a case manager on the college’s administrative board, in addition to working part-time as a Title IX coordinator.
Out West, Jodi Preudhomme, a former Arizona assistant attorney general and a former legal counsel for the Department of Defense, has been named Arizona State University’s first full-time Title IX coordinator. She will also serve as special counsel to ASU.
The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (UCCS) has hired Deborah O’Connor as its first compliance director and patient privacy officer. She will be responsible for UCCS’ compliance with Title IX and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
