CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Allegations that the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill (UNC-Chapel Hill) and Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) underreported crimes and mishandled sexual assault cases have prompted UNC System President Tom Ross to call for a review of campus security of all UNC schools.
The evaluation will launch in upcoming months, reports the News Observer. It will focus on how UNC campuses handle sexual assaults, policies and procedures, the timely reporting of crime and the management of campus police departments.
Although UNC reviewed its campuses’ security after the Virginia Tech mass shooting in 2007, that study focused on emergency notification.
