Published: October 5, 2005

BRIDGETON, N.J.—Violent crime in the Bridgeton, N.J., city school district dropped last year for the sixth consecutive year.

According to the annual District Report of Violence and Vandalism, there were 59 reported violent crimes for the 2003-2004 school year and 44 for the 2004-2005 year.  In total, there were 76 incidents of crime in the district last year. The majority of the crimes, 70 percent, took place at the high school, and no sexual offenses were reported in any school last year.

The decrease in the rate of crime is quite dramatic, especially considering the fact that in 1999, there were approximately 500 reported crimes in the district.
