Women Frequently ‘Dismiss Police Work’ In Kentucky

OWENSBORO, Ky.—Efforts to recruit more women into police work in Kentucky are meeting with resistance from candidates who express concern about the physical aspects of the job, reports Kentucky.com.

In the state, about 7 percent of officers are women.

Owensboro Police Officer Marian Cosgrove has been attending job fairs to recruit female officers.

According to the report, “they just laugh at you if I ask them if they’ve ever thought of being a police officer,” Cosgrove said.
