Security Officer Response Roles When an Active Assailant Comes to Campus

May 8, 2025 @ 2 PM ET

In the event of an active assailant situation, as in a person actively attempting to inflict physical harm on others (whether armed or unarmed), the roles and responsibilities of a Campus Security Officer are critical for the protection of students, staff, and other individuals on campus.

In this webinar, Idaho State Board of Education School Safety and Security Analyst Jacob Milner will discuss the duties of school security officers should an active shooter, active bomber, or some other person who is actively using a weapon attempt to carry out a mass casualty event on campus. Those officer duties and responsibilities include threat detection and information dissemination; engaging and/or eliminating the threat when appropriate; providing first aid and assisting in campus evacuation or lockdown; controlling the scene and assisting first responders; and much, much more.
